Grocery Shopping, Money Saving Tips!
A grievance of mine is hearing “you can’t eat healthy on a budget”. I totally understand, grocery aisles are not set up to help make inexpensive & healthy shopping decisions. But I promise it is not impossible. It can take a bit more work with prep of cooking in general but even if you take on one of these ideas, your families health could be in for the better. If you need fast items to through in the freezer for those wild days, head over to the Know Your Food blog. That page gives comprehensive reviews of all different types of foods, frozen items, boxed items and fresh too of course!
Bulk items:
Some grocery stores have bulk sections:
You can find everything in these sections from: beans, legumes, grains, nuts, granola, cereal, candy, spices, and seasonings and more!
Most items in those sections are completely clean (Healthy)
You can get as much as your budget allows (Example: Seasonings can be expensive to buy, but if you buy from the bulk section you can get as little or as much as you’d like)
Butcher:
Find a local butcher (I may be a plant-based forward girly, but I know the reality is a lot of families still eat meat.)
Same idea as bulk, here you can get the cuts you want for less per pound.
Buy whole pieces and cut it at home to maximize the least funds to more food ratio.
Shop Sales Not Favorites:
I know people, especially kids, like what they like, but this tip can help immensely.
Instead of going to the store with an exact list or thoughts of what to bring home, go with an open-ended list.
Example: You need school snacks for the kids, lunch items, and breakfast meals.
